Brand My Bags manufactures custom food packaging bags and pouches in Oak Park, Michigan — not a broker, not an overseas print shop. We print in-house on our own press, which means one price, one contact, and no re-quotes when your order grows.

Most converters start at 5,000 units. We start at 100. That gap is the reason small food brands spend their first two years on generic packaging: the economics don't work until you can commit to a truckload. We built the operation specifically to close that gap — same SQF certification, same FDA-compliant films, same barrier performance as a large-run converter, at a scale that works for a brand launching at farmers markets or going into its first regional retail account.

High-barrier film. Food-safe from day one.

Every custom food packaging order from Brand My Bags uses a multi-layer polyester (Mylar™) laminate: PET outer layer (print-receptive, FDA 21 CFR 177.1630), metallized MET-PET middle layer for the oxygen and moisture barrier (OTR <0.1 cc/100in²/day, MVTR <0.02 g/100in²/day), and a food-safe sealant inner that forms an airtight heat seal. The result is a barrier comparable to a sealed glass jar — the format that replaced glass and rigid cans in specialty coffee, beef jerky, and pet food because it delivers the same shelf-life protection at a fraction of the weight and shipping cost.

Recyclable PE-PE and post-consumer-recycled (PCR) film constructions are available for brands with sustainability targets. Clear window panels, kraft-texture film, and matte white are stocked alternatives to metallized silver. Every variant supports full-color CMYK printing across the entire pouch surface.

Industries we package for

Custom food packaging for every food category.

Every chip below links to a dedicated industry guide with specs tuned for that product. Same pouch, film, and barrier — spec adjusted for the fill.

Six food-packaging jobs the format is built for.

No. 01

Specialty coffee — stand-up pouches with degassing valves

Fresh-roasted beans release CO₂ for 5–7 days post-roast. A one-way degassing valve vents gas while keeping oxygen out — no nitrogen-flush equipment required. The metallized barrier locks in volatile aroma compounds that make specialty coffee worth the premium.

Best with: 8oz–12oz stand-up · One-way degassing valve · Press-to-close zipper · Matte finish

No. 02

Jerky and high-fat snacks — barrier against rancidity

Fats oxidize and turn rancid in permeable packaging within weeks. Our OTR <0.1 cc/100in²/day barrier extends shelf life past 6 months, reducing or eliminating oxygen absorbers in each bag. FDA-compliant food-contact sealant, no liner required.

Best with: 4oz–8oz stand-up · Tear notch · Hang hole · Soft-touch finish

No. 03

Pet food and freeze-dried treats

Premium pet brands have moved off paper and thin poly because the barrier performance isn't close. Mylar's oxygen and moisture barrier keeps freeze-dried kibble and high-fat treats fresh through a long retail cycle. Full-color print competes on a crowded pet aisle. Same FDA-compliant film as human food.

Best with: 8oz–1lb stand-up · Press-to-close zipper · Hang hole · Gloss or matte finish

No. 04

Frozen food — heat-seal performance at low temperatures

Standard sealant layers crack or delaminate at freezer temperatures. Our food packaging film uses a freezer-grade sealant formulated to maintain integrity from freezer through ambient. The metallized barrier also prevents freezer burn — the moisture-vapor issue that makes frozen food unusable after a few weeks.

Best with: Stand-up or lay-flat · Freezer-grade sealant · Clear window optional

No. 05

Small-batch brands going into retail for the first time

A 100-unit run prints on the same press, same film, and same proof review as a large production run — so a small first order isn't a downgrade in quality. The price per unit is higher at 100, but the bag is identical to one printed at full scale.

Best with: Stand-up pouch · Any size · Matte or gloss · Retailer-ready UPC panel

No. 06

DTC and subscription food brands

Lay-flat pouches reduce dimensional weight per shipment because they pack flat — a meaningful cost when you're paying per-box on 500 shipments a month. Single-serve and sample formats also work well in lay-flat. Same barrier film and print quality as stand-up, just without the gusset.

Best with: Lay-flat pouch · 2oz–6oz · Tear notch · Gloss or matte

Custom food packaging — answered straight.

Brand My Bags requires a minimum of 100 units per SKU — one of the lowest MOQs for custom-printed flexible food packaging in the US, where most converters require 5,000 or more. That means a small-batch coffee roaster, a farmers-market snack brand, or a growing pet-food company can launch with a real, custom-printed bag without committing to a full production run.

Yes — Brand My Bags uses FDA-compliant food-contact films on every food packaging order. The PET outer layer meets FDA 21 CFR 177.1630 for food-contact polyester film, and the inner sealant layer meets the applicable FDA 21 CFR food-contact requirements. Material spec sheets are available at quote time.

Brand My Bags makes three formats of custom food packaging: stand-up pouches (gusseted, self-standing — best for retail shelf presence), lay-flat pouches (three-side-seal, slim — best for DTC and subscription boxes), and rollstock / custom films (for brands with in-house VFFS or HFFS filling lines). All formats use the same multi-layer Mylar barrier film.

Standard turnaround is 7–10 business days from proof approval. Most orders ship within that window from our Oak Park, Michigan facility. Rush capacity is available — contact us before placing to confirm.

Our custom food packaging handles any dry or low-moisture food product: coffee, tea, jerky, snacks, trail mix, granola, protein powder, supplements, spices, freeze-dried food, pet food and treats, bakery items, candy, and frozen food. The barrier film is the same across all categories — what changes is the closure, size, and opaque vs. clear window spec.

SQF (Safe Quality Food) is a GFSI-recognized food safety certification program requiring third-party audits against a rigorous food safety standard. For packaging, SQF means the facility's processes, materials, and controls have been independently verified — not just self-declared compliant. Major grocery retailers and co-packers commonly require SQF-certified packaging suppliers as a condition of doing business.
